The Brandon Valley varsity baseball team its finding its groove as the season closes in on the halfway point. After sweeping Yankton in a double-header on April 15 and splitting a two-game set with Sioux Falls Roosevelt a day later, the Lynx are 7-10 on the season and have won five of their last six.
In the four games last week, Brandon Valley pitchers threw three shutouts and gave up just four total hits in those three wins.
GAME 1, April 15 – Brandon Valley 2, Yankton 0 – Matthew Brown pitched six solid innings, giving up just one hit and striking out nine. He also walked only one and picked up the win. Tyler Schelske registered the one RBI for the Lynx in the win.
GAME 2 – Brandon Valley 4, Yankton 0 – The Lynx got another pitching gem in the second game, this time by Carson Askdal. Askdal went the distance, giving up just one hit while striking out six with zero walks. Trey Sejnoha was 2 for 4 from the plate, and Schelske was 1 for 2 with two RBI.
GAME 1, April 16 – SF Roosevelt 7, Brandon Valley 2 – The Lynx defense was strong again to start the game and they kept their scoreless inning streak alive through three innings. However, trailing 2-0 after three, the Rough Riders broke out and tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fourth before scoring five runs in the final two innings to get the win. The Lynx committed three errors in the loss and managed just four hits.
GAME 2 – Brandon Valley 4, SF Roosevelt 0 – Joe Kolbeck went the distance on the mound for the Lynx in the second game, and again the Lynx were able to shut things down. Kolbeck gave up just two hits in the shutout, including 15 strikeouts on just three walks. Roosevelt had five errors in the game and all four Brandon Valley runs were unearned.
