RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Fire Department is investigating an early morning structure fire they say could be related to a series of suspicious fires in early December.
Shortly after 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning, the RCFD was called out for a fire alarm at 1018 11th street. That call was quickly upgraded to a structure fire.
When crews arrived, they noticed boxes stacked in an entryway in the alley side of the building that was on fire, but a single sprinkler head had activated and extinguished that fire upon arrival. Crews ventilated the building due to smoke and the building was partially evacuated.
The fire remains under investigation by the Rapid City Fire Department Fire and Life Safety Division and the Rapid City Police Department.
According to a statement from the Rapid City Fire Department Investigator, this fire does appear to be in correlation with the previous fires in this area, and they are continuing to investigate the case.
