A 60-year-old man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a rollover crash Tuesday on Cliff Avenue has now died, police said.
Dale Allen Rollag, of Sioux Falls, died sometime between Wednesday and Thursday, Sioux Falls police spokesperson Sam Clemens said during Thursday morning’s daily police briefing.
It’s unclear if any charges will be filed at this time, because investigators are still reconstructing what happened, he said.
“A lot of this depends on the physical evidence that was left at the scene,” Clemens said, “and trying to figure out speeds and exactly what took place.”
Officers responded to the two-vehicle injury crash at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at 61st Street and Cliff Avenue, according to a news release.
A 22-year-old man driving a 2015 Ford F-150 and Rollag driving a 2007 Mazda 3 collided near the intersection. Both drivers were transported to the hospital, with Rollag sustaining life-threatening injuries.
The Ford was headed north on Cliff Avenue at the time, with the Mazda stopped at a stop sign on 61st Street, Clemens said Wednesday. The driver of the Mazda was going to make a turn, though it’s unclear which direction, and was struck by the truck, Clemens said.
The truck rolled a couple of times, and the driver of the Mazda was thrown from the vehicle, Clemens said.
The investigation is ongoing.
