The discount movie theater attached to Sioux Falls’ Western Mall is set to re-open Friday with a number of measures designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
West Mall 7 is preparing to start showing movies again this weekend after a rough start to 2020, which included a series of closures to deal with fire damage in the lobby in January and carpet installation in mid-March, just before the coronavirus pandemic reached Sioux Falls.
Audiences returning to the theater will notice several changes intended to encourage social distancing and protect the health of customers and staff, according to an online announcement from West Mall 7 leadership.
“As we work to carry out these new protocols, we encourage you to allow a little extra time when coming to the West Mall 7 and please observe social distancing at all times,” theater representatives said in an online statement. “We will do our best to make your experience as safe and pleasant as possible.”
West Mall 7 implemented the following measures for its customers:
- Online ticketing
- Staggered show times
- Capacity lowered in each auditorium to 40% of total seat count
- On-screen messaging
- Longer intermission time between showings
- Private small group showings at lower price
