Patrick Mahomes, coming off a Super Bowl MVP season with the Kansas City Chiefs, will be one of the featured guest presenters for the Argus Leader Sports Awards presented by Wells Fargo, which will be livestreamed June 18 at 6 p.m.
Mahomes will announce the boys and girls athletes of the year, which are the top awards of the night. The show is free to watch using any desktop or smart device on the event website
Mahomes dazzled Chiefs fans last season with come-from-behind rallies that ultimately led to the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl victory since their 1969 season. The 24-year-old became the youngest player in NFL history to be named Super Bowl MVP after a 31-20 win over San Francisco on Feb. 2.
The former Texas Tech standout was named NFL MVP following the 2018 season after passing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns during the regular season.
Mahomes joins an impressive list of athletes who will be announcing awards for each sport covered during the show, including Venus Williams, Michael Phelps, Drew Brees, Gabby Douglas, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Misty May-Treanor.
Television personalities Jesse Palmer and Sage Steele will be among the hosts for the awards show. Additional presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
Not all sports will be included in the Player of the Year awards due to spring sport cancellations required by the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, there will be a recognition of seniors who missed their final sports seasons as part of a national tribute video that will be included in the broadcast.
The public can also show support of seniors who missed their final games and celebrations by joining in the national social media movement with support messages on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #DontStopNow.
One person nationally who posted using #DontStopNow will win $1,000 for themselves and $1,000 for the charity of their choice. See details on the event website on the night of the show for additional information.
